Level 4 Cert HE in High Speed Rail & Infrastructure
The Level 5 Foundation Degree (FdSc) in High Speed Rail & Infrastructure is the progression pathway for learners who have successfully completed the Level 4 Cert HE in High Speed Rail & Infrastructure.
Pathway to a BSc
The course is part of a three-year flexible degree programme, delivered at NCATI and validated by Sheffield Hallam University:
-
first year – completion of a Level 4 Cert HE in High Speed Rail & Infrastructure

second year – progression onto a Level 5 Foundation Degree in High Speed Rail & Infrastructure

third year – achievement of a full degree (Level 6 BSc in High Speed Rail & Infrastructure)
You cannot apply to the Level 5 or Level 6 courses in High Speed Rail & Infrastructure without first completing the Level 4 Cert HE programme. However, you can apply to the Level 4 and Level 5 courses together as a two-year Cert HE & Foundation Degree package.

The course will cover a broad range of topics including;
- Systems Thinking Tools and Understanding the Environment of Railway Projects (work placement)
- Project Management in the context of High Speed Rail
- Civil Engineering and Track
- Rolling Stock and Power
- Systems Engineering and Command, Control and Communication
- Operations and Management
The course provides you with a standalone Level 5 Foundation Degree qualification, which means you have a variety of options when you finish.
You could choose to continue your studies on this three-year flexible degree programme, with an optional third year top-up to a Level 6 BSc in High Speed Rail & Infrastructure.
After achieving your Level 5 Foundation Degree, you could also choose to go straight into work, apply for a higher apprenticeship, or go on to another Level 6 bachelor’s degree.
